Bounty Hunters

  • This needs to be modded into the game asap.

Bounty Hunter = Ryu from Street Fighter.
  • It's fun too.

WTB better animations for the Trooper mirror abilties :(
Shh, shh. Just go with it. The chintacle can sense fear.
  • I'll take the crappy animations, minus the the delays/damage-tick dropping, for starters!
  • Hells to the yes. The half second or more delays are terribad. Makes it feel a bit clunky compared to the BH.
Shh, shh. Just go with it. The chintacle can sense fear.
  • I really enjoyed playing my trooper... until I started playing my Rocket Puncher!! If I am fighting an elite and I get a few adds, they rarely last through more than flame sweep and the AOE damage from an explosive dart, but if they do, a nice rocket punch just feels good and is almost always enough to finish them. With the flame shield talent, it seems to pay off to boost my shield chance vs defense while leveling, as it resets the cooldown on Rocket Punch, which is by a long shot my largest source of damage. Might not be a great choice for operations, but I will likely respec and regear before I consider myself ready for that anyways.
  • Actually the rocket punch and the shielding procc'ing it is the cornerstone of tanking for a BH, same as stockstrike with a trooper. You'll be fine :)
Shh, shh. Just go with it. The chintacle can sense fear.
  • Hit 50 on the BH, jumped in a war zone (huttball of course), scored 3 times, dies 3 times, was at the bottom of the scoreboard and only got 35 commendations. Even though I am fully tank specced and geared, I got torn apart at will by anyone that tried, but thankfully most of the the republicans where too busy fighting to bother with the ball carrier.... I guess I need to adjust my strategy to focus more on something other than winning?

Empire leveling was a very nice change after playing on the "good guys". Most of the story seems to be trying to sell the concept that both sides are a mix of good and bad, which is pretty timely with the current state of politics in the US. Content wise, I would strongly suggest everyone try an Empire alt, if for no other reason than to enjoy all the content. Of course, Bounty Hunter is the most fun, but I know not everyone likes awesome things.
  • It tried Empire for a bit with the Operator (with the pocket calculator) and had two problems. First being that the Operator/Smuggler kind of sucks, compared to the other classes I've tried - I know, you'll say 'takes more finesse' but when you know Sages and Troopers are just blasting through this stuff while you take 4 times longer practising finesse loses some appeal.

The other is I had a hard time shoving 'morally ambiguous Empire' through my suspension-of-disbelief craw. The whole point of the Empire is that it's archetypally evil. This makes for a fine foil in storytelling but, obviously, it's not that interesting to play, if you just leave it as such. I understand the designers' conundrum - retcon Star Wars or just make it boring. Obvious choice and perhaps my craw is overly narrow. I'll get over it and myself (or at least, one of those things) and take up some Sith tanky thing soon.
  • Though it could probably most easily be chalked up to a non-standard craw, I think it might also just be that your wealth of "knowledge" (in quotes because it feels kind of odd to me using that word to describe an understanding of imaginary things) of the Star Wars universe will never really allow you to enjoy the game in the same way that some of the rest of us do. It isn't that our way is better, it is just less constrained by logic or "reality". I see the empire and republic as the natural progression of any 2 party political system. Seeing a difference between the 2 sides is about as challenging as it is to determine who is a democrat or republican in the US if all you were told was who they took money from and what they voted for, and not what they said (their actions, not their words).

I blindly play SWTOR assuming that the truly evil empire stuff is still 300 years away, and the current club is just the incubator for evil. I enjoy telling the Sithjerks to stuff it, and regularly go against orders and do nice things, not for the LS points, but to stick it to the man and reform them from the inside. Maybe the approved lore, if I was to read it or pay better attention in game, would point out that these guys are already super evil, but the approve lore also didn't include Mila, the blue skinned bounty hunter, that runs around with a Jawa.... probably.

Similarly, I assume that in 300 years We Know will not just be a multi-game social guild, but will evolve into a major political force, likely to control vast stretches of Europe, Asia, and North America. This probably will only happen after the zombie-appocolypse though, so don't count on us being able to maintain our current standards for membership. Nothing makes you lower your criterion for acceptable behavior like 90% of the planet having their brains eaten.

This has always been my feeling about playing Horde, who are even more cuddly and fuzzy than the Empire, but I've never been able to put my feeling into words. I'm enjoy giving Dark Side responses to the Republic bureaucrats and throwing a wrench into the evil machinations of the Empire. I really hope that my class stories will someday offer the option to kill my bosses; I can't stand any of them on either faction.

The above paragraph is one of the funniest I've read in a long time. Thanks for the Monday morning belly-laugh M2!

  • it is just less constrained by logic or "reality" it is just less constrained by logic or "reality"

Hah, I think you have it exactly backwards. It's constrained not by logic, "knowledge" or "reality" but pure emotional response. I'm not a massive SW fan and perhaps if I was it would be easier to rationalize this stuff away or convince myself to just not care (WoW style). But it just takes a bit more - SW is a children's tale I experienced as a child. Being thrown into a single-player story that evokes SW all the time as the John Williams score blares only to be told 'well, you know, Empire? not so bad after all, man' generates a bit of cognitive friction. It's not insurmountable, it's not 'ZOMG, SUDDENLY HATING THE GAME' but it's there. Ignoring this completely or, heaven help me, interpreting it all as some sort of metaphor for US politics - now that takes a greater mastery of reality and logic than I can possibly claim.

This has always been my feeling about playing Horde

There's a small difference there - Horde and Alliance were explicitly designed like that, morally-ambiguous and equivalent, from the get go. This involved a tiny bit of retconning from WC1/2 where the Horde was an unrelenting genocidal tide but then, statistically, nobody played those games, compared to WoW nor were they in any way part of popular culture.

    It's a trap, I'm telling you!

  • That's the reason I've not rolled Empire. I don't know that I'd call myself a huge fan, but it is the story I grew up with. I was surprised at the emotional gut reaction I felt when the opening titles started playing with the theme music. Apparently the epic tale of my childhood left an emotional imprint.

  • would be almost wrong not to post

Ignore the guy in the picture, he's just about to chop some bureaucrats to pieces!
  • It would absolutely be wrong not to invoke the Imperial March. Superior theme music is, in my opinion, more than adequate reason to roll with the dark side. Coupled with the fact that, apparently, every fashion designer in the galaxy is employed by the Empire you really have no choice.

    Empire forever.

But I need tacos! I need them or I will explode. That happens to me sometimes.

Just like Hitler! (sorry, a setup for godwinisation that I simply could not resist).

I put the pilot set (available through the spaceship upgrade dude for social points and space badges) on as soon as I could, on my Consular. Makes him look like a rather natty space janitor with a gun. But it's better than being sentenced to threadbare robes in slightly different shades of brown for 50 levels.

    /slap

You know better than that. This thread lives.
If you want to stop being called on your bad behavior, stop behaving badly.
  • Good resuscitation Swirly!

(And oddly I had no problem going through the Death Knight starting area, even though I felt it was well crafted emotionally to draw out the "Yeah I deserve it" attitude. Perhaps because I knew there was a redemption at the end.)

The correct terrible pun here would have been 'Like a Hugo Boss'
